You Deserve a Fresh Start Too: Why August Isn't Just for the Kids

You Deserve a Fresh Start Too: Why August Isn't Just for the Kids

You Deserve a Fresh Start Too

There's something about August.

The shelves are filled with backpacks and lunch boxes.
Calendars start filling back up.
Parents begin preparing everyone else for a new season.

New teachers.
New routines.
New goals.

And somewhere in all of that... we quietly put ourselves back at the bottom of the list.

Again.

I know that feeling well.

As moms, caregivers, partners, employees, business owners… we become incredibly good at preparing everyone else for what's next.

We organize.
We plan.
We remember the dentist appointments.
The school forms.
The practice schedules.
The grocery lists.
The birthday gifts.

We're the keepers of everyone else's lives.

But when was the last time you asked yourself...

What do I need this season?

Not what your family needs.

Not what work needs.

Not what your kids need.

You.

Because here's something I've been realizing lately:

Somewhere along the way, many of us stopped seeing ourselves as people with dreams and started seeing ourselves only as people with responsibilities.

Our identity became tied to what we do for everyone else.

And while those roles matter...

they were never meant to replace who we are.

Last year, August looked very different for me.

I was navigating life after divorce.
Learning how to build a new routine.
Working full-time, while balancing child sharing.

Trying to grow a business that often felt like it wasn't growing at all.

There were plenty of moments when it would've been easier to believe I should wait.

Wait until life settles down.
Wait until I have more money.
Wait until I have more confidence.
Wait until everything feels easier.

But life rarely becomes less busy.

There will always be another season.

Another obligation.

Another reason to postpone yourself.

So lately, I've been asking myself a different question.

What would happen if I stopped waiting for life to slow down before showing up for myself?

The answer isn't glamorous.

It's not a complete transformation overnight.

It's a tiny decision.

Going for a walk.

Buying the book.

Wearing the outfit.

Taking the picture.

Starting the hobby.

Making the doctor's appointment.

Drinking more water.

Applying for the job.

Saying no.

Saying yes.

Creating something simply because it brings you joy.

Small choices made consistently have a funny way of changing a life.

I think that's what confidence really is.

Not waking up one morning magically believing in yourself.

Confidence is built every time you keep a promise to yourself.

Every time you choose yourself.

Every time you remember that you're a person worthy of care, too.

As everyone heads back into a new school year, maybe it's your turn to start something too.

Not because January says you should.

Not because social media tells you to reinvent yourself.

But because you're allowed to begin again whenever you decide you're ready.

Or even...

before you feel ready.

So here's your reminder from one woman figuring it out alongside you:

You don't need permission to invest in yourself.

You don't have to earn rest.

You don't have to justify taking care of your body, your mind, or your dreams.

And you certainly don't have to wait for another "perfect" time to become the woman you're already growing into.

This season isn't just about getting everyone else back on track.

It can be about coming home to yourself, too.

Here's to fresh notebooks.

Fresh routines.

Fresh courage.

And remembering that you're worth showing up for.
